Competition Information

Competitions will be played in accordance with Bowls England Laws of the game and all competitors and markers must be fully paid-up members of Fairford Bowling Club

  1. The first named player / team in the draw shall be the challenger (player A), who is responsible for contacting the opponent, booking a rink of his/her choice, inserting the agreed date on the draw sheet and arranging a marker for singles games.
  2. Wherever possible all matches should be arranged by mutual agreement. Where this is not possible the following rules should be adhered to:
    1. The challenger must offer their opponent (Player B) three dates spread over more than one week, and at least one of the dates must be a weekend. The offer must be made within three days of the closing date of the previous round.
    2. Failure by the challenger to comply with the above will mean the roll of the challenger will be reversed. Player B must then offer three dates spread over more than one week, and at least one of the dates must be a weekend. The offer must be made within the six days of the closing date of the previous round.
    3. Once the challenger has offered dates, the opponent should confirm acceptance of a date within 24 hours.
    4. Once the date & time has been arranged then the challenger must make the arrangements by booking the rink of their choice, and in the case of a singles match must arrange for a marker.
  3. Should the arrangements for the match not be made and the match not played by the closing date of the round then no extensions will be given (Exceptions will only be made in the event of a close family bereavement or in the event of the green being closed on the last play date of a round. In these cases, the match must be played with two days of the closing date of the previous round).
  4. Where a match is not played by the closing date of the round then the following sanctions will apply:
    1. If player A fails to offer dates within the rules 2a above then player A shall forfeit the match, provided that player B has offered dates in accordance with rule 2b above.
    2. If player A has offered dates within the rule 2a above, and player B has fails to accept a date offered, the player B shall forfeit the match.
    3. If neither player offers dates in the role of the challenger and within the rules, then both players will be removed from the competition.
    4. If a match is not played by the closing date of the round because the challenger had failed to book a rink for the agreed date, then the challenger shall forfeit the match.
  5. Any player who fails to arrive at the appointed date or time or arrives later than twenty minutes after the agreed time, shall forfeit the game.
  6. In the Men’s and Ladies' Pairs, Winney Cup and Tom Pearson Cup competitions, only one and the same substitute may be used, providing that they have not already played in the competition. The competition secretary will provide a substitute of the same or similar standard.
  7. Duration of the matches is as follows:
