The weather was kind, the hotel was excellent, the staff were caring and the clubs we visited were very welcoming. In short, this was a great tour!
Started out with a trouble free journey to our hotel (Marsham Court) and after a light lunch provided by the hotel we visited Bournemouth Electric for our first game. With the sun blazing down a good game was enjoyed by all, resulting in a massive win for us 171 – 82. Needless to say we emptied their fridge!
As usual prizes were presented to the highest rink and the Wally prize presented worst losing rink, skipped by Ken Clarke, which actually only lost by 2!
After a leisurely breakfast and a wander around town we headed off for our second match to the New Forest to the Brockenhurst Club. During the trip into the forest we encountered a low bridge, which resulted in our normally excellent driver, Tim, having to reverse a 100+ yards to get on an alternative route; Well done! Tim.
Once again we were blessed with excellent weather and a very hot day and as what seems to be the norm we emptied the fridge! The game went our way again and we ran out winners 143 – 109. The Wally today went to Ken Sawyers rink, despite the fact that Wally had decided to go blackberry picking!
Our last game saw us travel to a local club, Moordown. A bit cloudier today but it did clear up and we played the game in warm sunshine. This club had a couple of giant gazebos (George, make a note!) which enabled us to have our tea outside and yes, you’ve guessed it, we emptied the fridge!
A good game on the best green on the weekend resulted in a win for Fairford 150 – 110. The final Wally of the tour was awarded to Phil Hope’s rink who only lost by 3.
As usual many indiscretions occurred resulting in fines which were ably collected by Ken sawyer on Sunday evening. Jean Moulden had also been running a ‘Swear Box’. The total for these came to over £100 to go towards the Macmillan Coffee Morning.
With good wins in each of our games the total shots scored was 464! which was won by Jackie Day and Runner-up Kathy Kent.
All members of the tour party showed their appreciation to Pauline and Ed Tuckey for organising a tour that was accepted as being one of the best ever. They were presented with a small token of thanks for all their hard work – thank you Pauline and Ed.
